Chilling Hours / Hours Below 0C (32F)

Beitrag von fcorey »

Hello,

I have been using WsWin for a relatively short time but I am extremely impressed by the power and functionality of this program.

By using the HTML tags, is it possible to calculate the number of hours below 0C (32F) for days, weeks, and months? This value is important for determining if the chilling requirements (plant dormancy requirements) have been met for agricultural crops. If it is possible, please post an example of the html code needed for this calculation.

Thank you,
Fred Corey.

Hello Fred,
I'm afraid there is no way to do this. There are several ways in WSWIN to show the number days below 0°C (for month, year) but not the hours.
But perhaps another way:
Have you noticed, that there is a feature in WSWIN to show the cooling or heating degree-days?
Have a look at "weather - degree days"
There you can set the parameters you want. But I don't know, if this is, what you want.

Werner,

Thank you for the reply. If if understand you correctly, under the X-Heat degree days I would set both values (base and cut) to 0C (32F)? This would then calculate degree days below 0C (32F) from a base value of 0C (32F)?

The solar radiation calculations that WsWin produces are also very powerful. One addition that would significantly increase the power of these calculations would be to add a provision to calculate solar energy (langleys or joules). If values were available for daily and monthly solar energy values, you could compare these values to plant growth or use the information to monitor the efficiency of solar powered devices.

Thank you again for the great software program that you have developed.

Fred Corey.

Hello Fred,
I think , you should be right, but you will have to test it nevertheless.
By the way, I'm not the programmer, this is Werner Krenn. But I agree, the software is great.
